Race City Steel on Saving Time and Money with Enmark Pay

Hi, I’m Andrew Minerich and I’m the controller at Race City Steel in Denver, North Carolina. We’re a metal service center based near Charolotte with four locations in North Carolina and South Carolina. We’re very proud to work with all of our customers from welding shops to home builders to construction companies, and we’re happy to Eniteo as our ERP.

So, we decided to implement Enmark Pay for two main reasons. Number one was the credit card surcharge. And the second reason was to embrace automation. So we’ve been accepting credit cards from our customers for many years and up until using Enmark Pay, we didn’t have a method in place to levy and collect a credit card surcharge. So that was a tremendous cost to our business. So number one, we’re saving several thousands of dollars by embracing Enmark Pay. And number two, along with that, we get the automation of the automatically applied payments. So that reduces a lot of time on our staff having to manually collect payments and apply them. It also gives our customers a 24-hour a day opportunity to pay their bills.

The overwhelming response from our customers has been positive. Most of our customers have embraced it. Even ones that we thought maybe would be reluctant to do so. They love the online portal. They’re able to go out and make a payment anytime during the day. They get to input their own information. They get to see the amounts. Therefore, they feel more comfortable with it. We’ve been able to see how much they’ve embraced that just by the sheer number of payment emails that come in throughout the day.

There were some hiccups – we did have to assist some customers as they went through the process, but by and large those were minor and once we were able to show them that perhaps they maybe weren’t filling out something correctly, they’ve embraced it from there and those customers go on to continuously use it.

The implementation is going very well overall. Again, the majority of our customers have embraced it. They’re going online. It frees up a lot of time for our accounting staff and reduces a lot of manual errors.

The primary advantage, I like to really highlight it as a controller, of course, is that saving of money. That’s the number one thing. We’re saving thousands of dollars in credit card fees and that is just to the bottom line. The first week was very exciting for us to watch the money coming in, knowing that it’s offsetting costs that we were previously bearing. And so it was exciting for us. The automatic application of payments is also very good. We have people paying on the weekends, people paying in the evenings. They don’t have to wait for business hours to call and talk to a member of our staff and then tie up her time. It’s been very convenient in that regard. And I think we are seeing a more rapid collection cycle just because we have more options for people to use to pay.

The team and Enmark has been a tremendous help throughout this process. I’m really grateful for their assistance. I know it can be rather intimidating to adopt this, and it’s kind of scary to tell the owners that, “hey, I want this big change in this new payment system,” and it can be a little scary up front, but having gone through it recently, it’s definitely worth it and if definitely will free up a lot of your time for your staff so I definitely say if it’s a good for your, definitely proceed and the Enmark team will help you.
